چکیده

ORAL PRESENTATIONS of the advised control measures on the Salmonella prevalence at the farm based on this research due to the limited number of farms. The adjusted HACCP methodology is useful to determine weak points and the control measures in a structured way for, in this case, reducing the risk of introduction and spread of Salmonella at a pig finishing farm. The decision trees are a useful tool to specify the farm specific hazards and control measures. The maximum benefit of the decision trees will probably be achieved when the decision trees are completed together with an advisor.

Use of competitive exclusion to control enterotoxigenic strains of Escherichia coli in weaned pigs

Mortality and morbidity associated with Escherichia coli cause economic losses to the swine industry. Enterotoxigenic strains of E. coli affecting nursery-age pigs have become more difficult to treat because of increased antibiotic resistance, and alternatives to antibiotics are currently being sought. Our laboratory developed a defined culture of commensal bacteria of porcine gastrointestinal ...

Comparison of bacterial culture and qPCR testing of rectal and pen floor samples as diagnostic approaches to detect enterotoxic Escherichia coli in nursery pigs.

Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) are a major cause of diarrhoea in weaned pigs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the agreement at pen level among three different diagnostic approaches for the detection of ETEC in groups of nursery pigs with diarrhoea. The diagnostic approaches used were: bacterial culturing of faecal samples from three pigs (per pen) with clinical diarrhoea and subsequ...

Microfluidic co-culture of epithelial cells and bacteria for investigating soluble signal-mediated interactions.

The human gastrointestinal (GI) tract is a unique environment in which intestinal epithelial cells and non-pathogenic (commensal) bacteria coexist. It has been proposed that the microenvironment that the pathogen encounters in the commensal layer is important in determining the extent of colonization. Current culture methods for investigating pathogen colonization are not well suited for invest...

Investigating the antibacterial effects of some Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium and acetobacter strains killed by different methods on Streptococcus mutans and Escherichia coli

Although there are many health advantages assigned to different live bacteria such as probiotics, some health threatening effects have also been reported. For example, live bacteria can transfer antibiotic resistance genes to other commensal and opportunistic bacteria of gastrointestinal tract. Recently, it was shown that using killed bacteria have some advantages over live ones. In this resear...

The Interplay between Entamoeba and Enteropathogenic Bacteria Modulates Epithelial Cell Damage

BACKGROUND Mixed intestinal infections with Entamoeba histolytica, Entamoeba dispar and bacteria with exacerbated manifestations of disease are common in regions where amoebiasis is endemic. However, amoeba-bacteria interactions remain largely unexamined. METHODOLOGY Trophozoites of E. histolytica and E. dispar were co-cultured with enteropathogenic bacteria strains Escherichia coli (EPEC), S...
